Sharing an IPv6 tunnel from a Windows machine

I've had an IPv6 tunnel from Hurricane Electric for nearly a year now, but through that time it has only ever been to one machine. Today I decided to try to allow every other machine on my network to have global IPv6 connectivity too, and was quite surprised at how little information there was out there when using a Windows box as the tunnel end-point. Not surprising really, but I decided to press on, as that is the only machine I have on 24/7. I've written this guide in the hope that it helps someone else.

PsExec

I came across a very useful tool today, for computer management on a domain. PsExec allows an administrator to execute programs on a remote machine.

I was using it to remotely uninstall software (psexec \\machine -i msiexec /x{GUID} /qb) and then install a different piece (which unfortunately wasn't msi based and had to have the user click finish at the end (psexec \\machine -i -d -c install.exe)

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2009?

Hmmm... It may be Patch Tuesday today, but why are Microsoft releasing an update with April 2009 in its title? - "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April 2009 (KB890830)" appeared in an email from my WSUS server this morning.. I wonder how long until MicroSoft realise...

WSUS, IIS and IPv6

Recently, I have been playing around with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), which is responsible for sending Windows Updates to all machines in my domain. WSUS hosts its updates on an IIS (Internet Information Services) website.

A rant about adverts

One thing that has been really annoying me over the last year or so, is adverts that, as their sound track, have just a track of music. I, and I'm sure many others, do not watch adverts when they're on - I do something else, be it check emails or any other task. As such I only *listen* to them. How do I know what you're advertising if you don't even say what it is, and rely on someone to be actually watching the screen to see your product / company name appear?

Freeview EPG Reminder Setting

A couple of months ago, my freeview box received an update to a new teletext sponsored Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) making it supposedly better. However, now to add a reminder for a programme, I have to press yellow to go to the TV guide options, wait for that page to load, then press 5 to set a reminder, and select which type of reminder. How is it better if I have to go through more steps and time to do the same thing? Surely a better solution would be to simply 'press 5 to add a reminder', rather than going through a separate menu? As far as I can tell, the 5 button doesn't do anything on the main EPG screen anyways! /rant.

Just a reminder to everyone that the 9th April is naked day. This means that this website, along with many others, will be stripping all the CSS out of their sites and leaving you with just the text and images - no design.

How political correctness irritates me

I normally like to keep my opinions to myself, usually because if something doesn't directly affect me I don't see what good my opinion will have on it. However, a couple of recent news articles have got me a bit annoyed about both the way that people twist things to fit their argument and political correctness going, one again, too far.

More three mobile broadband problems

So... I've been noticing more and more frequently an issue with my Three modem, where it will randomly disconnect and refuse to start again. I've noticed this in both Windoze and Ubuntu, on two different machines - so four environments. This led me to be 95% sure that it was some sort of hardware fault - Ubuntu had been throwing out device read errors and device refusing address errors, and windoze's device manager had been saying that the device failed to start.

So... I lost firefox. The latest ubuntu update for it has caused it to break. It loads with just a grey window with nothing on it. Not even the firefox logo in the top corner :(

As a result, I'm currently browsing with lynx until I can be bothered to fix it / install opera.

BBC cock up

The BBC managed to cock up a live broadcast of the news last night. They had a problem with the sound - the test sound was being played instead of the sound that should have been played. I managed to get a line from the TV to my machine just when they thought they'd fixed it (or not!). While the voiceover was on, there was a generic BBC one technical problem screen displaying. Anyways, here's the recording (ogg format, 800kB). I cut out most of the first report as it was not relevant.
