3 mobile stealth billing

I recently received my 3-mobile monthly bill, which is normally £15 per month. However, to my surprise it was £16 this month.

It may only be £1, but it is the principle that they should not be able to increase the bill without telling me. Not wanting to waste any of my money over this, I went to my nearest 3 shop, and complained to a sales person. He told me that it was part of their environmentally friendly scheme that it costs £1 extra to get an itemised bill (this is the one page that says how many bytes I've downloaded every day!).

After pointing out the terms and conditions he got in touch with someone on the phone and they agreed to reverse the £1 charge this month, and not charge it again.

How can they justify £1 for a piece of A4 paper? After all, I still get the summary page posted to me, so there's no change to the postage costs!
