How political correctness irritates me
I normally like to keep my opinions to myself, usually because if something doesn't directly affect me I don't see what good my opinion will have on it. However, a couple of recent news articles have got me a bit annoyed about both the way that people twist things to fit their argument and political correctness going, one again, too far.
Last week, Jeremy Clarkson called the Prime Minister a “One-eyed Scottish idiot”. What frustrates me about this, is that all except the last word are facts. He only has one eye. He is Scottish. Calling him an idiot is Clarkson's opinion, and is something that he frequently does anyway. He didn't do anything out of the ordinary there. He treated the PM as equally as does many other people / organisations. He shouldn't have got in all the bother that he has for that.
Another story that caught my eye this week was one about a school that had separate assemblys for pupils of different faiths. I don't know if things have changed now, but when I was at school, assembly had nothing to do with religion. Such an act is surely encouraging separation. It reminds me of the USA when they had different busses / schools / toilets for coloured people and white people. Why can't people just do the same things together? In the case of the assembly, you don't have to believe everything they say, but at least accept the point that they are putting across. From my experience, assemblys are more about being a better person than which religion to follow.
When will this stop? When will people learn that they have to do a bit of give and take?
